昨日AIRの学生は、外国語ガイド付きで、京都を観光したと思いますが、
　　　　
今日は、私がたまたま本屋さんで、一目惚れして買ってしまったこの本を使って

今日は、誰もが知っている、清水寺を英語で紹介します
      

        　　　　
Kiyomizudera Temple
  
「Look out over the city from Kiyomizu’s veranda」
　　　　
Kiyomizudera temple was built in the second half of the eighth cantury. Being an ancient temple built before the national capital was moved to Kyoto, it has been registered as a World Heritage Site. The temple’s principal object of worship is an unusual statue of the Kannon Bodhisattva known as a Kiyomizu-style. As a hibutsu(hidden Buddha), it is not usually displayed ti the public. On the mountainside, one part of the main hall stretches out to form a veranda with a fantastic view. It is  called the “stage of Kiyomizu” . The expression ” to jump off the stage of Kiyomizu” is a commonly used phrase meaning the same as the English expression ” to take the plunge”.
  
　　　　
「清水の舞台から、京都の街を眺めよう」
　　　
創建は８世紀後半。都が京都に遷都される以前から存在した古刹の一つとして、世界文化遺産に指定されています。ご本尊は、清水型と呼ばれる珍しい形の観音菩薩で、秘仏のために普段は公開されていません。清水山の中腹にあり、本堂の一部が「清水の舞台」と呼ばれる眺めのよいバルコニーになっています。「清水の舞台から飛び降りる」というのは、思い切ったことをする、例えとしてよく使われます。
